New 2015 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak
Mopar has just revealed the pricing and specifications for its all-new 2015 Challenger Mopar Drag Pak model which offers any willing driver with $100,000 to spare the chance to own a race ready car capable of running the quarter mile in eight seconds. The standard Dodge Challenger is already known to be a high-quality American muscle car. So much so now that it's not that rare a sight even on European roads. Enthusiast of all walks of life are discovering that it's pretty adept in the corners as well as on the straight line.
Well Mopar's new Drag Pak edition isn't just to answer the call of Ford Mustang CobraJet or Chevrolet Copo Camaro. It also shows that Chrysler and its Mopar division hasn't forgotten about the car's true roots or of it's homegrown American Muscle Drag Racing fans. This new factory-fitted package is offered with a one of two Gen-3 HEMI V8 engines, a supercharged 5.8-liter 354 cubic inch or a naturally aspirated 7-liter 426 cubic inch engine, fitted thru a Chrysler style Turbo 400 3 speed transmission, along with everything needed to keep glued to the track. "Today, we write the next page in our performance playbook with the reveal of the production Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, a vehicle that offers, for the first time, a supercharged engine that provides our racers more options," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO, Mopar Brand Service, Parts and Customer Care.
Though it does means the drag pak is exclusively for the drag strip. Both models have been developed specifically for nationally sanctioned drag racing series such as the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). So owners won't get a chance to race them on the street, well not legally anyway. The 2015 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak gets a full NHRA specification roll cage, safety nets and five-point harnesses instead of seatbelts; plus of course slotted front and rear brake rotors with special calipers and master cylinder for optimal braking power.
"We are extremely pleased with the results obtained during our testing," said Dale Aldo, Mopar Motorsports Marketing Manager. "In the first runs the new Drag Pak ran consistently in the eights (eight-second range) while improving times at the 60 ft. mark . mark and also performing very well in the quarter mile."
So the 2015 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak is expected to cut low 1 second 60 foot times , running the 1/4 mile in the 8.80 second range at around 150mph. Not too bad for a "factory built car". Read below of the specifications right from Mopar. When the order book opens on July 23, the 426 Challenger will cost $99,426 while the supercharged 354 model will come with a $109,354 retail price.
