2015 Fisker-Galpin Super Mustang “Rocket” now in production
2015 725 Horsepower Super Mustang called "The Rocket"
The Galpin Auto Sports Mustang Rocket is now ready, after it first debuted at the LA Auto Show in November 2014. Its looks rather sinister, with its gloss black paint-job, racing stripes and blacked out 21″ 10 spoke ADV.1 wheels. The Rocket is a carbon fiber-bodied car based on a 2015 Ford Mustang, Built in partnership with Galpin Auto Sports, and designed by Henrik Fisker. The inspiration unmistakably came from some of the classic American muscle cars of the 60s. More specifically the 1968 Shelby GT500, (Fisker's favorite) with its long hood and huge air intakes. Enthusiasts are calling the Rocket the “ultimate American muscle car”. The Rocket is available through Galpin's dealership in California or at a few hand-picked locations across the U.S. And in some other countries across the world.
“Ford’s engineers and [Ford design chief] Moray Callum’s design team did an amazing job with the new Mustang,” Henrik Fisker said at today’s reveal. “So good in fact, I think the design additions and power upgrades we have made to the car help it play in a higher league, against much more expensive supercars.”
The front of the car is anchored with an imposing hexagonal grille that has been made from carbon fiber, split horizontally with a polished aluminum bar and two nearly hidden driving lights at the top corners. A front splitter helps draw out hot air from underneath the car which improves cooling, while also working in conjunction with the side skirts, enlarged rear diffuser and rear spoiler to produce downforce. While twin vents in front of the rear wheel arch help cool the massive 15” Brembo Grand Turismo brakes. The Rocket's lines emanate perfectly from the front, through the long hood, over the flared fenders which then converge on the integrated fully functional rear spoiler. Those large scoops in the hood are designed to channel air into the engine bay, also helping to keep the engine cool. The interior has been left mostly apart from some red leather and carbon-fiber trim.
The entire body has been contructed from carbon fiber crafted by GFMI Metalcrafters. The Cat-Back exhaust system features quad tips and made by Bassani Xhaust. The suspension is fully-adjustable and the 21” wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires. Paint colors available for the Rocket are Black, Ingot Silver, Magnetic, Oxford White, Race Red, Deep Impact Blue and Competition Orange. These are 7 of the available 10 factory 2015 Mustang color options.
Under the hood, the Rocket has a modified 725 Horsepower 5.0 Coyote V8 with a 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger; mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. No official numbers are in yet, but the 0-60 mph is expected to be executed in under 3 seconds, followed by a top speed of over 186 mph. The Galpin Auto Sports Rocket commands a price tag of over $100,000.
